SYBF Week 2 Wrap Up: Harness Humor
I won't lie; wrapping up the humor week is a bit sad for me. Don’t get me wrong; I’m delighted that this marks our progress with 40% completion of the 5-week program. My, how time flies when we’re learning and growing! But luckily, I’m a big fan of next week’s topic, so I’ll recover quickly. 😆
The week of humor was interesting for me. The biggest strategy I engaged in was making a point to find a bit of humor when I found my anxiety creeping in. Some of this was laughing at myself when I got tense about small things. To be clear, this was not in a self-deprecating way. I was not putting myself down with humor. Instead, I took a moment to see my quintessential quirks and tendencies, especially those typical of me when I feel a little out of control.
REMEMBER to share something about your experience brain building with humor on the blog
I also made a point to play with words in short spurts throughout the week. Here’s a silly little phrase I can up with when I challenged myself to use humor in every way possible in one sentence:
How humorous it is to humor the self by playing with hubris-fueled humor!
One way I embraced humor was by envisioning myself as a character in a musical. As a lifelong fan of musical theater, I found this approach entertaining and enlightening. It allowed me to see my quirks and mannerisms in a new light and even laugh at the caricature of my humanity. It was a unique and personal way for me to engage with the study of humor.
If you remember nothing else from this week, please remember Snoopy’s wise words:
I leave you with a little limerick I wrote this week while playing with silly poetry:
There once was a girl from Maine
Who forgot how fun it is to dance in the rain.
She found her youth’s kin
Through humor applied again
And now she can think better again!
